Hello! I’m Emma Oliver. This is my seventh year teaching. I’ve taught both general and special education over the years. I have focused on teaching language arts and math, ranging from grades 6-12. My career began as a member of Teach For America, Atlanta 2012. Since then, I have taught at three schools across seven grade levels.
Currently, I’m teaching 8th grade special education. I have a Masters degree in Reading and a Bachelor’s degree in 7-12 Secondary ELA Education. One of my favorite educational experiences was student teaching in South Africa in 2012.
I believe in providing choice and scaffolded support to teach reading and writing. Additionally, I think novels are the best and most engaging way to teach reading and promote a lifelong love of learning.
I love YA literature and enjoy creating resources for teachers to bring culturally-response, high-interest lessons into the classroom.
