Support your students in reading comprehension, writing, and more with the following ideas:
1. Argumentative Writing
First, this free resource is a graphic organizer to help your students learn to write a 5 paragraph essay. It includes reminders of things to include in each paragraph.
Students will type their ideas into the document on Google Slides. This is a great way to scaffold the argumentative/persuasive essay for your writers.
2. RACE Writing Strategy
Second on the list is the RACE Strategy. The RACE Writing Strategy is my favorite way to help students learn to cite the text. This resource provides a short paragraph for students to read and respond in a paragraph. Included is a writing checklist for each part of the RACE Strategy. Get versions for grades 2, 4-6, or 6-9 here!
3. Text Structure
Third, this quick, self-grading activity is a great way to introduce or practice text structure. Students will read 6 short paragraphs and choose the correct answer.
Non-fiction text structures include: compare/contrast, cause and effect, problem/solution, description, chronological order, and sequence.
4. Paired Passages Student Guide
Next, this digital guide to paired passages is great for grades 4-7.
Paired passages are a fantastic way to increase the rigor in your ELA classroom. They will help your students prepare for standardized tests. Additionally, they promote higher-order skills like synthesizing, comparing and contrasting.
5. Scrambled Paragraph Activity
Finally, check out this free scrambled paragraph activity. This activity is a fun way to practice paragraph structure. It will also reinforce reading comprehension. Teachers have said that it is a great way to introduce paragraphs to struggling writers.
Located on Google Slides, students will drag and drop the sentences into the correct order.
